Installing Report Designer

Windows XP
vb.net development environment

I am currently attempting to develop a reporting solution for our company. I have successfully installed the report server and the management server on our server, and I am attempting to install the designer on a client computer.

This is where I've run into a problem. I don't know how to install just the designer onto a client computer. I've run setup from the SQL Server 2000 CD, and I believe it attempts to install the server components, giving me errors on not having sql server installed, not having IIS installed, and not having IIS with ASP.net installed. If I attempt to continue, it gives me Error #: 1603, telling me the same thing again (no server found on localhost). I know those are required for the report server and management, but I know the designer doesn't require all that on the local computer.

I looked all of yesterday for a solution without success. It seems like the answer should be obvious, but I'm missing it. The only thing I can think of is attempting to install the designer on the server. Currently there is no .net development environment on the server.

I had similar problem when installing with the IIS and ASP error. You could try the following command which corrected it for me.

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_regiis.exe - i

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, it made no change to the attempted install process.

If you have VS.net 2003 on the client you should be able to do a custom installation and only install the designer
