I am wanting to install Redhat 7.1 on my PC. Currently I have XP Pro, and Win98 installed, but each OS will have it's own Hard drive. I am currently using PowerQuest Boot magic 7 as my boot manager.

When I install Redhat are there gonna be any problems between lilo and Boot Magic? Can Boot Magic load Linux without Lilo? I know I can get rid of Lilo after install and just use a boot disk to load linux. Should I disable Boot Magic before installing Linux? I am not very familiar with how Linux operates from a command line standpoint and that is more or less what I plan on messing around with. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well I don't know how Boot Magic works, but you could always use lilo as your boot manager. You can put in multiple entries when you configure lilo. You can also set default boot as whichever one you want. The lilo.conf file contains the boot information. You can also run the regular lilo command and it will update the lilo.conf file. I believe the actual lilo command is in /etc but it could be somewhere in the /usr folder (sorry I can't remember off hand and can't check!). So I guess my advice is, that unless you are intimately tied to Boot Magic, just use LILO. --Derek

Thanks, I disabled bootmagic, and installed Mandrake 8. Everythign went well with Lilo, Lilo does the same as Boot Magic, so I'll keep LILO.
