Hello,

I'm trying to install portupgrade on a FreeBSD 4.10-Stable box. The first error was autoconf was too old, so
I installed 2.59. The build fails in Ruby 1.8.2 p2_1:

config.status: Creating Makefile
Makefile updated, restart.
*** Error Code 1
1 Error
*** Error Code 2

Any ideas?

>>Have you done 'make deinstall && make reinstall' for Ruby?
I hadn't. When I tried this, and I received an error that ruby was not installed. I moved to ruby 1.6 in ports, and did this, and I received an error regarding open-motif.
I removed open-motif with pkg_delete, then I ran deinstall for ruby 1.6 again, and got a 'don't know how to make deinstall'. So I removed ruby 1.6 with pkg_delete, but when I re-ran the make for ruby 1.8, I received the same error.
Looking at the Makefile for ruby18, my ports have a commented-out autoconf variable:
#USE_AUTOCONF=no
uncommented, it says use USE_AUTOCONF_VER, which fails with
213, so I set it to 253:
USE_AUTOCONF_VER=253

Thanks for your help.

Solution: pkg_remove -a
I removed all the packages I had installed, installed autoconf259, and that's all it took.
