i want to install a password to stop people logging into my computer.
i have tryed using the one in control panel but when the diolog box appears you press escape you gain access into the computer.
are there any other ways of installing a password

Use this tweak at your own risk:

Make sure your system is set up for multiple users. Create a new user name for yourself and enter a password. Reboot the system and when asked for a password just hit escape. You will be logged on as the default user.

Open notepad and paste this in:
[tt]
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDesktop"=dword:00000001
[/tt]

Save the file in the Windows folder as "NoDesk.reg". Use Explorer to locate the file and then double-click on it.

Follow the prompts and reboot your computer.

From now on, nobody will be able to use the computer without a valid password.

If something bad happens or it doesn't work correctly, boot to the "Command Prompt Only",

enter CD \WINDOWS
enter EDIT NODESK.REG
change [tt]"NoDesktop"=dword:00000001[/tt] to [tt]"NoDesktop"=dword:00000000[/tt]
save the file, exit the editor and enter REGEDIT NODESK.REG.

Reboot the computer and you should be back in business.
