I have a G5 IMAC with 10.4.8. I'm trying to reformat and install a fresh copy. I have the orginal installation CD's which are 10.3.4 and I also have Tiger 10.4.6. The problem im having is when I successfully boot from either of the CD's, then the setup menu appears, finally when I click continue i get a halt and the message states that I can't continue with the version. I'm assuming the error appears because im installing an earlier version than the current on the hard drive. Is there anyway I can get around this? My system is unstable. Any links or suggestion is greatly appreciated, thank you.

I believe if you are going to reformat the drive, then you would select Disk Utility from the menu bar and go from there.

Try that first, then install the system.

Try booting from the cd/dvd and first run disk utility from that to make sure the hard drive is ok. If problems reported, use disk utility to repair.

Then, choose Options on the installer cd/dvd and select Archive and Install. This will keep a copy of teh previous OS, moving into a Previous folder, and give you a neew OS that retains your old settings, etc. If that's ok, you can then trash the old system.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Hi UNIX72
I'm wondering if you might do the update to 10.4.10. If that doesn't cure the problem then reformat and reinstall.
You could do the disk first aid first.
Running 10.4.10 on Intel iMac here.
