Hi,

Has anybody installed Oracle 8i.1.6 (Release 2) on Red Hat 7.2 Intel successfully? I am having a heck of a time trying to install this. When I stick in Oracle 8i CD and try to run runInstaller, it just hangs. I have had better luck on Suse Linux Personal Ed 7.0 than Red Hat. With Red Hat I tried to upgrade the "enlightenment" package on the Red Hat and downloaded the latest one for RH 7.2 from "rpmfind.net" and installed that. But no luck. I am running out of patience.. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Antony

There are specific RPMs which have to be installed before installing oracle.

compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm
compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm
compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm

once these have been installed open new session as the "oracle" OS user and type the following -
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 and then run the following file - i386-glibc21-linux-env.sh -
this can be found at /usr/i386-glibc21-linux/bin

During the installation, you might get some relinking issues. Ignore them and proceed with the installation. once the installation is complete, then unzip the glibc stubs patch (provided by oracle) into the ORACLE_HOME.

Refer to the README of the stubs patch on how to proceed further. glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz from technet.oracle.com.

have fun!
