Ok here's the deal. I have an Hp and im running windows 2000. I have integrated 4mb video its an 810 chipset. Im running phoenixBIOS verion 4.0 release6.0.1 Now i want to install a Voodoo4 32mb card. So heres what i did. I uninstalled the 810 chipset because there is no disable option in windows 2000. I turned off PC. I put in card in PCI slot cause its a PCI card. I turned pc back on. And my computer wont let the 810 chipset alone. it always tries to reinstall it every single time. In my bios, there is no DISABLE ONBOARD VIDEO options, the only options are 512kb or 1mb. There are no other options in my bios about video or primary display driver or anbything like that. I've tried to update my bios but when i try to flash it it says i cant when a certain cache memory is running or something of that nature. So i go back to bios to disable the cache memory but i cant because there is no option. Read this over again and again before you try to answer please. I've been through it all trying to figure this out.

Let th onboard install ,and disable the device for onboard vid adaper in device manager . "dont use in this hw profile" .

this option is non-existant. All i have is uninstall, which does me no good becuase it will reinstall when i reboot. The only hardware profile options i have are when i click on hardware profile under the system icon in control panel. And no where in there does it give me an option about which profile i can use.

I think you are missing something..

Accessing Device Manager using Control Panel

Press the Start button
Go to Setting, a new menu will pop out to the left.
Click on Control Panel.
When the control panel comes up find the icon that says System and double click it.
The system properties box will come up, click on the Hardware tab.
In approx the middle of the hardware page and the right hand side you will see a button labeled Device Manager. Click on this button and it will open the device manager.

Device manager opened
double click on display adapter
makes a new pop up window with three tabs on it.
general ,driver and resources .

On the general tab
in the bottom of it it's drop down option
under the words "device usage".
This has two options
"use this device" (enabled)
or
"do not use this device"(disabled)

i dont know what operating system youre using or talking about, but windows 2000 pro doesnt open a new window when you double click on display adapters. It just brings down which ever display adapters you are using, in my case "3dfx voodoo series" and "intel chipset 810 blah blah blah". If i right click and go to properties it only brings up a window that says general with a picture of a pc and the words, display adapters. Nothing more.
