I have a Compaq Ipaq & I ordered a new hard drive to replace the old one after it crashed. I installed the empty hard drive, has not been formatted & no OS. I get the first compaq screen & then it goes to Non-System disk or disk error replace & strike any key when ready. It doesn't have an a:\ drive & cd-rom has been removed for now. When I go into the boot menu, I get an error that media failed check cable. I replaced the cable w/ no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

There is no information on the drive to boot from. You will either have to boot from a floppy or a bootable cd.

A little too quick with the submit button......

Then you will be able to partition the drive, format & restore using the compaq restore cd.

It is rather important to have a Cd-Rom atleast and a floppy would help. If all you have is a CD-ROM and your installing XP or 2k you can tell the bios to boot from the CD and go through the setup process (format it ect..) If you want Win98 or below however it would be best to boot to the floppy with a Win98 Startup disk and partion and format from there. Either way you will need CD-ROM support to load the OS to the drive.
