Installing MySQL (problems)

Hi. I want to install mySql on my Linux....
I donloaded mysql-3.23.53a-pc-linux-gnu-i686, i extracted the files and i dont know what to do next. In the tutorial I have says: mysql -help for help , but when i do this i get Eroor 2005: Unknown MySQl server host 'elp' (2)
