I have installed MySQL on various PC's at home and in my office recently, and have noticed I always get problems if I try to install MySQL in a directory anywhere other than my C: - basically, I can't connect to the server.

What tells the system where MySQL is installed? I have amended the my.ini file to show the correct path, but can't get the changes to make any impact.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
