I have the cable plugged into the modem, and the modem has an ethernet cord running into my machine.

Can someone now give me step by step instructions on how to get the cable modem to transfer information onto my machine.

Basically, I need to configure my machine to work with the @home cable modem service!

Thanks in advance

with ever thing hooked up you click my computer/control panel/network then a window with three tabs up top will show.make sure you have client for microsoft network in the box then make sure you have your NIC card showing in the same box and also the TCP/IP protocol in the same box
then cilck the identification tab and make sure your computer name is in were it says computer name then in the work group box type"@home" and under computer description put unknown
after that go back to the configuration tab select TCP/IP and click properties ensure the Obtain IP Address Automatically is selected then click wins configuation tab and ensure that disable WINS resolution is selected then dns configuation and ensure that disable dns is selected
and finally click OK.

HOPE THIS HELPS...

You can also call them on the phone and they will stay with you and walk you thru the whole process until you are up and running.

I had to do that last night after wiping my hard drive and reformatting. Ya' Gotta Love It!
