Hi,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.

I have SQL Server 2000 client installed on my work machine (and I do not have access to any SQL instances, neither locally nor on the network) and want to have MSDE 2000 installed on this machine so that I could have a local instance of SQL Server engine to try out some DB-centric apps.

My question is, can both SQL Server 2000 (Client) and MSDE 2000 coexist on the same box without interfereing with each other's installation/execution? I do not want to disturb/alter the existing installation of the SQL Server 2000 as it is a part of my company's standard build.

Any tips/suggestions/comments are most welcome.

Thanks for your help in advance.

First, welcome to the forum.

Yes SQL Server 2000 and MSDE can exist quite happly on the same machine. There can't be a conflict between the SQL 2000 client tools and the MSDE tools, as there are no client tools for MSDE. Once you have MSDE installed you can use the SQL 2000 tools to manage it however.
