I have a clean Redhat AS4 installation on an HP DL385, and need to get it sending the traps described in the mib: CPQHOST-MIB. This mib file did not come installed, I had to get it from the internet.

Ok, so I've got the file, but now what? I imagine that I need to copy the mib file to a certain directory, and then start some process that will cause the compaq traps in this file to get sent. This is where I'm lost.

Sorry if this is a very basic question, I would rtfm if I had one.

Many thanks

Hi,

No, generally what you need to do is to configure the SNMP agent on the server to send traps.

I'm not too sure what agent it will be on a Redhat server, but generally on *nix servers if you do a :

ps -ef | grep -i snmp

you should be able to see if you have an agent running. Usually, you have to configure the agent to send traps to a destination IP address (the IP address of your management station).
