Hi - I would like some advice!
I want to install Mandrake 8.0 on a laptop that has a factory install of XP on it. The disk was partitioned with two NTFS volumes (one is c: the other has no drive letter - I think it's for the laptop hibernate function) it has one more partition which has the NEC restore files - it's a FAT32 volume. They are all primary partitions. I have used Partition Magic to resize the c: drive - but it wouldn't let me move either of the other two partitions. Using the space after the c: drive I have made a linux swap and linux ext2 partition - these had to be logical partitions due to the number of primary's allowed. This has all successfully been made - and XP still runs fine.
I intend to install Mandrake to the Linux partition but am a little worried about the bootloader - I can't afford to wreck the XP install - it's in Japanese, and would cause a lot of problems. All the data has been backed up.
My main question is this - does the bootloader work properely with XP now? (Mandrake 8.0) I have read that there were originally some problems - but am hoping that they have now been fixed.
Any advice would be most welcome!
Thanks,

Kim Leece.

errata! I'm sorry - I meant Mandrake 9.0

Use lilo as the boot loader. I have heard of various problems with grub. Good luck.

I'm using GRUB and have not had any problems with it. (Currently multibooting Windows 2000, FreeBSD, Slackware and RedHat). //Daniel
