Hi,

I currently run winXP Pro SP1&2.

I have also downloaded the linux 'Fedora core 3' a DVD. I boot with the DVD inserted, but I cannot install it; it skips it and continued loading windows. There is no problem by the boot devices priority. The reason is that if i insert the CD 'winXP', I will be able to boot from it and install windows.

The point is that there is a problem on the media. If linux is on CD (or CDs); it is ok. If on DVD, it is not recognized.

Can you help me on this?

Are you sure that you burned the DVD right? You need to burn the ISO image to the DVD the same way that you burn an ISO to a CD.

Is the reader on your computer a DVD drive?

Well, I downloaded from the web (not p2p, but website) the iso file. From I extracted the files of it with winrar.

Could this cause the problem?
Yes, it is a dvd drive.

Yes, that's probably the problem. With CDs, you have to burn the ISO as an image, not extract the files. Your DVD burner should have a similar function to burn the image. Extracting the files gets you a DVD with all the files, but not a bootable one.

To correct it:
I'll burn it using nero and i'll let you know.

Something else: I have FC3&4 dvd, mandrake10.1 and suse9.1 or .2 (dont remember). Would you recommend any of these, or any other linux to install?

Any of those look OK. Debian is also supposed to be good. I use CentOS, a redistribution of RHEL, myself and recently downloaded OpenSUSE 10 which looks very good, especially for a desktop.

I burn it again using a program and not just extracting the files. Now it is a bootable dvd-disk.

Now comes... FC4 or Mandrake10.1
What would you suggest?
I am more interested in developing...

Thanks
