installing KGPSA-BY in AS 4100 1

**I'm a complete newbe, never touched the hardware.**

Alpha 4100, tru64 5.1.

I need to install a new HBA KGPSA-BY to this server (I have it)... so:

1. power off & open cage
2. put the HBA in a free slot
3. close cage & power on
4. done????

am I correct? do I need something more else?

Sounds good for installing the hardware. The kernel will need to be rebuilt, which will probably include installing the software drivers so read all the instructions, release notes and user guides, etc before you start. And plan what you are going to do.

Brief notes for rebuilding the kernel:
>>> b -fi genvmunix -fl s

# bcheckrc
# cp -p /vmunix /vmunix_pre_KGPSA
# doconfig
- create new configuration file: Yes
- edit configuration file: No
# cp -p /sys/<NODE>/vmunix /vmunix
# shutdown -h now

>>> show device
>>> boot
