I just installed Red Hat linux 8 with all the packages. I am familiar with computers, but I am new to Linux so I don't quite know how to go about installing the Java Run-Time Environment (JRE). I went to and downloaded the "Linux self-extracting file". I saved it in my root folder. The filename is "j2re-1_3_1_08-linux-i586.bin". However, I don't know how to extract or install a "bin" file, and when I click on it, it just gives me a text file. Please help a beginner. Thanks,

Dreadson.

chmod 777 j2re-1_3_1_08-linux-i586.bin
./j2re-1_3_1_08-linux-i586.bin

After copying the file to where you want it installed and switching to that directory.

Explained quite clearly in the installation instructions!
