I downloaded and installed the Mozilla FireBird browser. But can't seem to install java no matter how I try. I followed the directions on the Mozilla web site-no joy. I'm using SuSE 9.0. Anyone know of a good tutorial for Linux newbies on installing java? Thanks.

If you have installed your Java JRE, then just copy the file

/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_02/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so

to your MozillaFirebird's plugin directory. The location of the file may vary depending on your distro (I'm using RH9). Close your browser and type "about:plugins" without quotes in the address bar to check if Java is registered.

I tried this on my setup and no luck! I've offically given up....

yah did the same thing. I have mozilla 1.5..... all it did was close the borswer window that had the java applet!!

Hi,

I use debian. Plugins are located on:

"/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/"

just copy the file "libjavaplugin_oji.so" to that location.

Try to do a "find /usr -name plugins" in order to know where to copy the files.

It's quite easy!!

After trying several more times to install Java I'm giving up. Mozilla Firebird is an excellent browser for Windows but sucks under Linux. Untill Mozilla can work the bugs out of Firebird it will not be a player under the Linux platform. Thanks for your help everyone. I'm off to un-install Firebird.
