I ran into a wired setup this week trying to do some pre-install work. I have a Cisco 7513 router with no RJ45 ethernet interfaces all the LAN interfaces are gigabit fiber.
I have setup routers like this before and typically just use Xmodem to install IOS on a brand new flash card.
The problem I ran into is the 7513 would not allow me to use Xmodem it was not even an option. Is this common for higher end routers like this?
I was able to get around the problem using a 2950 switch with a fiber GBIC and TFTP but what happens if I had to put the IOS on through the console port? I found it hard to believe that this would be impossible to do.
