I erased an IOS on a 3750 switch and want to reinstall. I attempt to do various break key sequences and nothing will break. All i get to on the switch is the boot loader commands (IE: version, unset, type, trap) I am using solarwinds for my tftp but again i cant get a break sequence to work, to get to rommon mode. I dled the latest hyperterm from hargraeve and still nothing. TIA

Try downloading Tera Term and use that for your terminal emulator , much better than hyperterm and it's a good telnet client also . Just do a google on "Tera Term

Cool program and I shall play with it more, but it wont break the init bootup and allow me to tftp or get into rommon so that i can get an image on the router. There is (0) image on the router. What i want to do is get one copied and then boot to that image...thanks.

Tera Term does have a break key sequence. You can either select 'Send Break' from the Control menu or use Alt-B as a shortcut.

hey thanks for the help but i tryed both ways and no breaks, there is no ios installed...sigh. I put an ip address on the bootldr using the set command

IP_ADDR=10.0.0.8
IP_SUBNET=255.255.255.0

and i am not able to see the switch...blah.

ok i figured out what to do so I will post for anyone here:

on the switch: command prompt, type copy xmodem: flash: (then the file name)

hit enter

goto the top of your hyper terminal and hit transfer and then send, at this point it asks you for the file location and assure that xmodem is choosen from the second drop down box.

it will take about 3 hours to do and assure that you accomplish the send file process before the hyperterminal shows $$$$$$$$. You should be able to do it with the hyper terminal still showing CCCCCCC.....

Thanks

If you weren't able to execute a break, how did you get a command line?

What was the IP address of the device you were using to telnet to the switch after you configured the IP address? Did you configure the default gateway on the switch, as well?

you do everything from hyper term you dont need to do a break. The ip address was added as shown in an above thread but you wont need it, the connection is made across hyperterm. YOu dont need IPs though because your hyperterming in. the command line runs xmodem through the hyperterm...damn i wish i had known this months ago.

Remember that I was at switch: prompt. so your commands are real limited.

You can xmodem all of cisco's gear to replace a corrupted or bad OS , it's just real painful doing it because it is so slow . You can adjust the settings so that it will run at 115200 bps so it is not quite as bad .

Sure, you can use xmodem, but why?? If you can get to the point where you can enter the IP address of the device in boot mode, why not just use TFTP? It's about a gazillion times faster.
