Hi all,
While trying to install IIS on a WIn2003 Standard edition, I get an error: "Setup cannot copy file xxxxx.xxx (it happens on every IISx file it looks for) Please insert the service pack 2 cd-rom and retry" I installed sp2 from windows update. I can point the setup to the directory that contains the file, but the message keeps appearing. I have pointed it to the original I386, to the files extracted from the SP2 package I used to install SP2 as well as the I386\service pack files , all with the same result. Does anyone have any ideas on this. Im dyin here.
regards,
Bill

Are you trying to install IIS6 or IIS 5? Do you have the original Win2k3 CD or a network copy of it available to map to ?

Thanks for the response.
I am going to the Add/Remove components to install. I assumed that it was v6. I do have a copy of the original install CD and I have tried to map to it with the same result.

regards,
Bill

With Win2K3, the choices you make on the initial install may limit what you can do later. If you can, try a fresh install of Win2K3, and tell it in the beginning that you will want IIS.
If this server is already in production for other purposes, you could be stuck. Let's see if anyone else has a better solution for you!

usually with this message...

Please insert the service pack 2 cd-rom and retry

if you insert the original Windows CD ( as opposed to the service pack 2 CD ) the install will run. Maybe try copying the I386 folder from the CD, locally to your IIS server, then try again

Dwonload the sp2 file from here ;

Extract the contents of SP2 to a directory on your server, point IIS install to this directory when it asks for files

Thank you botrh for your post.
Paul, I have already tried exactly what you have suggested. Same result.
Dublin, I have the original install CD available via LAN and have pointed the IIS setup to it. No dice. What the hell is it looking for?

Have you tried copying the I386 folder from the CD, locally to your IIS server, as opposed to over the network?
