Is there a top or bottom to a HD? Should one side be facing up? What about a twist in the IDE cable. It seems everytime I install a CD-Rom or a new hard drive the IDE cable barely reaches.

you could always but longer ide cables, or even rounded ide cables!

I always install drives with the label facing up. There could be a twist, in the cable, between the connector on the MB and the connector to the first drive. But it shouldn't be twisted between the two drives.

Manufacturer specifies mounting positions. See the web site. Ed Fair
