I really would like someone to help me on this:
First, I installed Oracle 8i on Windows 2000 and then installed forms (formerly knowns developer2000) but when I opened up forms builder and tried to connect using the same username, password and service name used for Oracle 8i, I get an error that says tnsname needs to be resolved.
I think that the problem is that I could not install developer2000 on the same directory as Oracle 8i. However, I copied the same tnsnames I used for oracle 8i into the same directory where developer2000 resides, yet the error message still persists.
Any ideas / help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install them into different ORACLE_HOMEs? If not, your Developer files, compatible with Oracle8.0 have overwritten more recent 8i files, so you need to reinstall both products in different homes. Then you have to tune your tnsnames/sqlnet files in 8.0 ORACLE_HOME.

I actually installed them in two different oracle homes.
When I started getting the tnsnames error, I copied the tnsnames for oracle 8i into the forms oracle home. It did not solve the problem
There was never an oracle 8 version.
Just oracle 8i.

Forms 6 is shipped with sql*net (net8) files, compatible with Oracle 8.0 (you may see them in Oracle installer as "required support files"). If you're able to connect to database with sql*plus, shipped with 8i, then at least your Oracle is OK, otherwise you have to make at first your Oracle to work.
Try to copy not only tnsnames, but also sqlnet from oracle8i_home/network/admin to oracle8_home/net80/admin.
I don't know which parameters (protocols, names, paths) you use, but the general rule is to leave only ones you know about or use some Oracle utility instead.
As for your error, it states, that there is no appropreate entry in your tnsnames file. If it is, check whether you use names.default_domain in sqlnet.ora.

Dear Chidi

Try to config new TNS thru the NET8 Config utility which is a part of ORACLE Software if it won't help Inform me I'll give you the detailed step by step procedure to configure the same.

Good Luck

Thanks Sem and hemantpandya!
I used net8 config utility to add a service name (the same service name as Oracle 8i)but I am still getting the tnsname error message.
Hemantpandya, I will very much appreciate it if you could give me the detailed step by step approach as you promised.
Thank you very much!

Dear Chidi

Oracle for Win
Oracle Net 8 Easy Config

Add New Service [ e.g. xpert] new service name

Networking Protocal - Bequeth [Local Database]

Database SID - Name of Database [Default ORCL] or the
name given by you at the time of Installetion

Test it if connected thru username/Password [system/manager]
Finish and every thing will be OK

If not try to configure Oracle LIstner & Start Oracle Listner [Default start on Win NT ] and do the above process again

Hope this will work.

Good Luck.
