Can you pls tell me how are aix fixes installed.

I know few methods.but I need something else.

I know these:

1) Using “instfix” command (This installs from the tape drive)

2) Using “installp” command( This installs the software)

3) using “smit”command.(This uses GUI)

I already downloaded some fixes on my AIX machine. I want to install them from the machine not from tape drive or any floppy or CD-ROM.

Pls help.

the easiest is to use smit or smitty and specify the directory where you have downloaded the fixes. If you use the smit/ty path: Software Installation and Maiintenance/ Install and Update Software/ Install and Update Software by Package Name (or Install and Update from Latest AVailable Software), the first screen you see is where you specify where the software has been downloaded to.

Also instfix and installp have a -d parm which is where you would specify where you have downloaded your software to. So, if you downloaded to /download/fixes, the -d parm would be -d/download/fixes.

Do a man on instfix and installp.

/usr/lib/instl/sm_inst installp_cmd -agX -d'/where/your/files/are' -f'_update_all'

this should install only the ones you need.
