Newbie - I am installing exchange server 2000 on a 2k server. I noticed that after I install exchange and restart, the computer keeps accessing the HD non stop - My memory (i have 1 gig of ram) keeps getting full.. I notice that a netinfo process keeps rising in memory (in task manager). And of course the system is sluggish. Anyone has any ideas (I tried reinstalling.but same thing happens)

Hi Dragonbak,

Firstly Inetinfo (IIS) will grab as much memory as it can as will Store.exe, this is to be expected and is known as DBA (dynamic buffer allocation) if another app needs the memory it is freed by these componets back to the system.

The sluggishness is obviously not intended :) , I would ensure you are using the /3Gb switch if you are running on Advanced Server (Windows). One thing you MAY have to do if you are not is reduce the database cache size (i.e limit DBA to a certain size). There are articles on Microsoft.com about all of the points I've mentioned so I'd read up on them, if you have time.

I would also advise you to take some performance data and ensure there is nothing else suspicious taking place... are you seeing and errors being logged for example.

HTH,
Mark
