Hi,

Is there a way on how to install a mail server which is not in the domain controller or it is in the other box. I have installed windows 2000 server for the exchange then I have windows 2003 server for domain controller. What I did first was to join windows 2000 box server on to the domain controller. Is there a way, how I can replicate users from my domain controller to use the exchange? Do i need to install active directory from my windows 2000 box server? Please help... thanks...

When you install the Exchange Server it will query your AD. You will need to prepare the AD for the Exchange attributes by running the exchange setup.exe on the DC first from a command line.

setup.exe /forestprep
setup.exe /domainprep

That will extend the AD Schema to have the Exchange attributes.

You will also want to install the Exchange Tools on all of your DCs so the Exchange tabs will show up under ADUC.

As Exchange 2000 is no longer supported, I would suggest you go with Exchange 2003, plus it is considerably more robust.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
