First of all, I know nothing about MS Exchange, so bare w/ me. We recently purchased a server with Win2k server. We want to install Exchange 2000. Do we need to install 5.5 first? I have tried to install 5.5 first but when installing 2000 as an upgrade, I encountered many errors. I then removed 5.5 and then tried to install 2k doing a typical install, there was an error stating that NNTP component of IIS is not installed.

Before you begin installation, make sure that SMTP and NNTP are installed. They don't have to be configured, just in place. Obviously, Avtive Directory as well.
The error for NNTP not being installed will not show up again if you make sure it's in there before you begin installation of Exchange Server 2k

5.5 doesn't like to be upgraded, so no surprise as to many problems with it.

Exchange 2K must have Active Directory. Exchange 5.5 does not. You must have AD and DNS configured and functioning correcty for Exchange 2K.
