I'm trying to install eDirectory on a W2K Advances Server with a PII 233Mhz processor and 64 MB RAM. I know this isn't great hardware to be trying this on, but this is just for testing. While installing, I get as error message saying that there was a problem and to consult the ni.log file.

Here is the file: (I had to cut most out. If something left out is needed tell me, and I will post the entire log.)

*** LOG END MARKER, DO NOT REMOVE ***

After the inatll has finished, I try logging into the Novell tree, but no tree, servers, etc. are found when trying to log on. This is a fresh install of w2k with only adobe acrobat reader and java installed; no updates. I previously tried this after installing all the windows updates with the same results. Any clue why this didn't work?

Here's the solution I got from Novell:

Hi
Make sure you have the latest client installed.
If your network is purely ip and you installed the client with ip
and ipx the setup will search for any other edirectory servers in ipx
and times out. So make sure you installed with ip only.
If you have IPX make sure you configured an IPX internal network number
in the
NWLINK IPX/SPX/NetBios protocol property.

Did it work? I would think that your lack of RAM would cause you a great deal of headaches. I can't believe that 2k even runs, let alone E-Dir.

I removed the IPX/SPX protocol, and yes, it worked. I'm was planning on using the computer as a test machine for GroupWise, but after installing eDirectory and GroupWise, I realize I don't really know enough to set this up to work correctly. The computer actually runs pretty good, but I did receive a message about the virtual RAM being used up. lol.

Wow, I have to give you credit. Your making the most out of the least. If your just testing though now is the time to play and learn. If everyone ran around here acting like they really knew what they were doing we would live in a perfect world. Come on tear it up and rebuild it, it's teh best way to learn.

LOL... Well I doubt management would like for me to buy a new machine just to run tests!! I found another computer that is not being used that I'm planning on taking some RAM from for the test server. I've downloaded *.pdf files about eDirectory, Groupwise, ConsoleOne, and DirXML Password Synchronization, and I plan on digging out my old Novell books from college to relearn some stuff. I'm actually a CNA in Netware 4.11, and have taken all the classes in order to get my CNE (Adanced Administration 4.11 4.11, Server Installation for 4.11, Design and Implemention for 5.0, Networking Technologies for 5.0, Service and Support for 5.0, and Groupwise 5.0). However, I graduated from college in '00, and haven't touched anything Novell since.
