I had a hard time installing the Dreamweaver 8.0.2 updater on Vista x64, so I thought I'd post some tips and instructions in case anyone else was having issues.
I tried to install the updater and it would constantly and quickly fail right away (see for a description of the issue). Adobe suggests downloading and installing the MSP file that does not come wrapped with InstallShield (see Every time I would try to run this MSP file, it would say that I needed to run it as Administrator. This is an option with an EXE file, but not an MSP file.
First I did a system restore point, just in case.
Then I had to open a command prompt window as Administrator (it's an option if you right-click) and type the following (the MSP file is named "PatchPackage.msp"):
C:\>msiexec /p PatchPackage.msp /l* DWlog.txt
This assumes that the file can be found at C:\PatchPackage.msp and the /l* says to log everything to C:\DWlog.txt. The log is very involved, but I figure it would be good to have if something went wrong.
That's it -- hope this helps someone.
