Hi, I am on a LAN with Natting going on. I want to install Debian over the internet for whtich I have downloaded the base CD. Problem is that when the part comes where it after asking the options (HHTP, FTP etc.) tries to download the files, it just can't and there is a screen showing it has failed to do so. Could someone plz help me out here? Is it possible to do it over internet accessing from a LAN? How can I know its not because of my LAN card not being installed? (though I tried on 3 different pcs with dif. cards). Or if possible, can I have a PC in my LAN to serve the 7 CD images I have downloaded? If yes then please tell me how to use ISO images without burning them? I use WinISO but it seems the resulting files dont work as the Burned ones do. Thanks in advance!

Your NAT isn't set up correctly or the NIC isn't configured correctly. The only way I can think to determine if the NIC is working would be to snoop the network from either the firewall or another machine. Or put the machine on the other side of the firewall, just long enough to see if it will start the download.

I have a copy of redhat enterprise that I could not get to install from the cd. I copied the files onto a separate pc and setup an ftp server on it. Then I did the network install and pulled files from the other pc. I think that might be faster for you to do it that way rather than from the internet. But that is just one way to do it.

Thanks robbym627, I will sure give it a try but there is another thing that a friend of mine told me. He says that I have to configure my NIC during the installation so that I could reach the internet mirror sites for further sites. We are gonna do it in a couple of days and he was pretty sure about it. I will let you know if it worked for me, take care!

I can tell you yes you do have to configure it during the nstall or it won't work.

thanx guys, I finally managed to get it done but cant tell you how :). Actually I wasn't able to install it with the basic Installation CD for Network installation but when I downloaded first of the 7 CDs, it recongnized my NIC and I was able to add additional apt-get source (http or FTP) during installation which helped getting additional files and it was a very good experience. Thanks for all your help.

Regards
