OK, I managed to get Mandrake installed and working. Now I went on line and downloaded StarOffice. Now my problem is I can not figure out how to install it. I downloaded as a bin file. I can not find any reference that tells me how to install a bin file. Most references talk about rpms etc. but none refer to what to do with a bin file. I really hate to be stupid, but I'm determined to learn at least the basics of linux.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

From within the directory you downloaded the file in:

chmod 755 staroffice.bin
./staroffice.bin

This will change the mode of the file to be "rwxr-xr-x", which means the owner can "Read, Write and Execute" while the group the owner is in and the world canonly "Read and Execute" it.

Hope this helps,
Paul
