I'm going to be working on a small CCM install. There is only one Call Manager server that acts as it's own Pub/Sub, rather than in a cluster.

My question is, is it possible to install BARS on the Unity server with the CCM and have it back up? Or would it be easier to install it on the CCM server and hope for the best? Or, finally, could I install it on a generic piece of hardware on the network and have it do a network backup?

Or I guess finally finally, could I use a backup server with a SQL agent and server agent to back up the DB across the network?

BARS is a CCM specific program and needs to be run on the Publisher. It isn't made for Unity at all. For Unity quick and dirty backups use Disaster Recovery Tool.

You can install BARS on the CCM, have it backup the files and place them on a network share. So if you like, you can have it at least place the backup file on the Unity server to protect you from a total file system failure.

We have BARS backup to a file share in another state. This gives us an immediate off-site backup to protect us from a site disaster.

Just make sure the account you use to access the file share doesn't expire or have its password suddenly change. Otherwise you need to go back into BARS and update it every time.
