To All:

We are planning to migrate to BAB 11 and we a have Backup Exec 8.6 (Win2K SP4) in production connected to our tape library.

Server is a Compaq DL-380 1 GB RAM connected to a Compaq SL2020 Robotic Tape Library

What is the best way to upgrade to BAB 11 without uninstalling Backup Exec? Are there any gotchas?

We want to have the option of going back to BackupExec seamlessly in case the BAB 11 installation fails.

Thanks!

1) All the services for both product have to be set to manual.
2) In the OS Device Manager you have to disable the tape drives and library and then restart to use ARCserve. Then to go back to Backup Exec you have to enable them and then restart.

That's all there is to it.

I disabled all Backup Exec services and installed/enabled all ArcServe services except the Tape Engine Service which is terminating repeatedly.

I have no problems running this Compaq SSL2020 tape drive with Backup Exec.

What should I check next? THanks...

provided you also disabled the tape devices and restarted debug it with the Tape Engine Log.

Try to run Device configuration and select Disable/Enable RSM to give arcserve full control on the library and check if it is helps.
