Hi there...

I have a lot of work to do on the Aloha systems in my restaurants and I need Aloha manager in my office so I can work on getting every last detail setup the way I want....

I do not have an install for Alohaboh but what I did was connected my computer to the POS network and ran the terminstall program....but that only installs a foh terminal and what i need is the server...so i copied everything on the alohaboh drive to my computer.

I finally get to the point where the only error I'm getting is "could not start ctlsvr.exe as a service. check that it is registered." I checked and it is not showing up under Service in windows. I have done a command line ctlsvr.exe /service and it says it was successful but still does not show up.

Can anyone tell me how to replicate and USE my alohaboh on another computer???? thanks!!!!

If you're basically trying to make a workbench system you will find that you have to have a hardware key called HASP to run Aloha as a full system. You can install in demo mode and copy the data over from one of your systems to edit it. I don't suggest this unless all your systems are all the EXACT same version. You can have your dealer install the Aloha Manager software on a system other than the BOH if you just want to be able to make edits to your system from another computer.

Also you have to install Aloha with an account with Admin privileges.

Finally did you run the bat file to register the services? You will find it at the base of the Aloha install.

This is a complete pain in the a$$, and I have close to 10 years experience with Aloha on the technical end.

It is possible, there is an AKB for it, but even with that, it was tough to get working, and when it did work, it always seemed to "stop working" for no reason in almost every location I ever did for it.

There really hasn't been much of a need for it anymore now that pretty much every place has Internet access- your most reliable an easiest solution is to set up a remote administration tool like logmein, which has a free version and works awesome. There are others too.

The only real draw back- which usually isn't a drawback at all- is that you would be in control of the PC, and no one else could use it. There are ways around this too, using stuff like RDC in Windows, that I won't get into now- but it definitely gets you around the headache you will face trying to it with the aloha solution.

If you have "restaurants" you should have an Aloha install CD somewhere. You need to get one. You do not need a key to do programming etc in the Alohaboh but you do need the proper install from the CD.

I think what you are trying to do is what is called a remote connection. Aloha can be set up to use both Remote Aloha Manager and Remote Aloha EDC on any other computer on the network. This way you can have the server locked up somewhere but still have all the access needed.

I have this setup at all my locations worldwide and no issues with it.

You do need the install disc to for the Remote Aloha Manager installation but not for the Remote Aloha EDC.

Remote Aloha Manager requires the full installation of Aloha Manager from the Aloha installation CD on the remote workstation. You must perform a full installation because Aloha Manager requires several Microsoft applications (such as Internet Explorer, Data Access, and DCOM) as well as the registration of numerous .EXE and .DLL files. Once the full installation is complete, most of the files in the Aloha folder can be removed to not needlessly consume hard drive space on the remote workstation. Only the BIN folder and its contents stay on the remote hard drive.

Enter the following command in the 'Command Line' text box being sure to insert the correct server name and Aloha application software folder:

\\ALOHABOH\BOOTDRV\ALOHA\BIN\ALOHAMGR.EXE /IBERDIR \\ALOHABOH\BOOTDRV\ALOHA /REMOTE

I have about 10 years experience with Aloha, and this has always been kinda flakely as far as I am concerned. I would recommend some kind of remote access software to get to the computer, like the free version of Logmein, before I would go this route.

I recently did this w/ a customers personal computer, which is in his office, but on the same network as the Alohaboh. He claims sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. At that point, I told him if he really needs to get to it, we'd setup some sort of remote access, since this has always been more trouble than it's work in my experience.

Most Aloha Servers have VNC on them to view the Terminals. All you have to do is turn on the VNC server on the BOH and then access with a vnc client. I bet if you look around on your BOH you will find the installation program for vnc
