Hi All,

We have a CS1000E site that has a Primary Security Server. We will be adding a Virtual DCH and sip trunks to this site. To give us redundancy we want to add a backup security server in case the primary goes down. Its been a while since I initially install this sig server. Are the following steps still the same?

Step 1:

Install 4 single patches
Reboot
Load applications-EM,SS and deploy
Install and load SP
Reboot
Configure Security(my case would be backup Security Server)
At this point if the security configuration takes it will generate a finger print.
Then I should see the backup SS in the deployment view once I log into the primary security server?????????

The fingerprint has already been generated in the Primary UCM, so you will tell the back up UCM to look there for the fingerprint. Honestly, my thoughts are, doing a backup UCM is a waste of time. Because if the Primary ever fails you will need to build it back as the Primary, right? However, your steps above look about right depending on release.

Hi KCFLHRC,

We have SIP trunks to the site. My understanding is if the primary fails the backup should take over correct? I hear you about rebuilding the Primary. It's a pain

I do have another question for you. When you build the backup under the security section it asks for the IP of the primary Security Server. It never mentions if its looking for the ELAN or TLAN. Do you no which one is needed?

Thanks

Jeremy

I agree with KCFLHRC--------there is no need to configure it as a backup---just call it a member. As a member it will give you backup on your SIP . When adding a server to the domain it is always looking for the TLAN.

I would disagree, I think it's looking for the ELAN, this is the network where they communicate with each other. TLAN carries voice traffic.

Thank you for the information.

I have one last question. To this point I have always build a primary and backup security servers with SS and EM. I plan on going with a member server, do I still deploy the EM portion of the applications?

Thank you for your help.

Jeremy

I would say yes, but if you really want to do the Backup Security Server instead of Member Server there is absolutely no reason you cant do that also. Our practice is to not do a backup, other companies may do different things.

Good luck
