Installing a Notebook hard drive into a Desktop

Help! I removed a 30gb 2.5in hard drive from a notebook and would like to temporarily install it into my Compaq desktop to copy some files. Can this be done? I found a conversion kit that will connect the drive to the desktop, but i imagine i will run into some other issues. thanks for the help!

 
That is all you will need. NO problems if the Compaq can see a drive that large. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.
 
I do it frequently enough to keep 2 of the kits on hand and use a desktop to clone notebook drives. Just be sure to get the jumper settings from the manufacturor's web site if they are not printed on the drive label. Usually uses no jumpers when in the notebook but needs to be Slave or Master in a desktop.

And do note the file system, NTFS or FAT32. Win98/95B/95C can't work with NTFS.
