For reasons of interoperability with our sister company, I have to install Exchange 2003 in a new org. I have a few questions maybe you can answer.

1. I want the 2003 server to be Authorative. And any email not resolved go to the 5.5 site. What kind of connector do I have to set up in order to link my 5.5 to 2003?

2. I have multiple domain names. How do I make sure that I can add any of these as secondary addresses? Recipient policies? A seperate one for each?

3. My main concern is the interoperability of 5.5 and 2003 in 2 seperate orgs. Any info that you can give me will be great.

Thanks!!!

Well, here ya go...

1. In the Exchange 2003 server's Default SMTP virtual server, go to Properties, Messages tab, fill in the field at the bottom.
2. That depends on whether the additional addresses need to apply to everyone (default recipient policy), or a subset (additional policies).
3. Keep in mind that if both are handling mail for the same domain name(s), you've got a problem. You should have them in the same org. Work arounds leave open the possibilities of other problems, such as mail loops.

And keep in mind that 5.5 is totally unsupported by MS. Time for an upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. I cannot add the 2003 to the 5.5 site because it is a shared org and one of the other sites already upgraded to 2003. So, I am forced to create a new Org. Unless someone knows how to accomplish this within the same org that way. I would love to upgrade rather than migrate.

All my users will have the main address. Only some will need other addresses as secondary and in some instances primary.

We are now in the process of this upgrade because of the End of life of 5.5.
