I don’t have much space in my miniTower PC case, and I want to install another HD, but the only way that fit’s in the case is upside down. There are any kinds of problems installing the HD this way (with the board up)???
The HD is a IBM DeskStar 60 Gb 7200 rpm
Thanks

Rafael

No. But if you are that short on room, you will probably have problems with heat. Hard drives pump out a lot of heat so you may have more frequent crashes. You are better off getting a new case.

If it will fit in upside down, it will fit in upside up.
The more significant question is what cable is creating the need to mount it upside down. And had you considered getting the cables sorted out so the next time the drive goes in the same way?
Some drives are not to be mounted that with the board up.
The definitive answer is on the drive manufacturer website. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I dunno, I've heard it all kinds of ways... and the manufacturer generally likes a flat mount right side up. But I can tell you that I have a 4g Fugi duck taped to the bottom of my benchtop. Been there dang near since it was new. Runs every day. Not that I am recommending this particular configuration... ;) HAHA!

Where exactly are you installing this disk in your minitower? Every drive is designed to fit into the slots specs given to them under the limits of the frame.

Most minitowers have 2 5.25 bays and 3 3.5 bays. A CD-Rom occupies one 5.25 and a floppy & hard drive occupy 2 of the 3.5 bays. So unless you have used up both of those leftover bays, you probably have hit the limit of what you case can support.

You could upgrade to a large tower with a nice 400 watt p/s, a large 80 MM fan on the front, and 2 30 MM fans on the back. Also, there are external disk drives that you can hook up as well. Either process should eliminate your space problem altogether
