Trying to Install SCO on a Dell Poweredge and everytime I run the installation I get a double panic 0x08 when SCO is installing the software packages from the CD - it stops when it's between 5 and 10%.

The Dell itself has an 80 GB IDE Drive and IDE CD, SCO sees both of these items perfectly, It gets past the divvy of the hard disk perfectly, I am trying to install the minimum install so I've deferred the Network card and mouse stuff.

According to SCO this is a supported machine but they have only tested it with a SCSI card and Raid disks, according to Dell this machine is supported.

By searching around it seems the double panic is either Bad Memory or a 3rd Party Software package ... anyone know of a memory testing bit of software that fits on a floppy ?

Any ideas ???? Please ....

Regards
Mark.

Each Dell machine comes with a 'Utility' partition with some diag program. Try the F10 key on reboot.

It sounds like memory to me too. I've seen many cases where manufacturers have actually put the wrong kind of memory in a machine. It may be worth calling Dell and verifying that you have the right memory for your motherboard.

Does the bios have an option for a full memory test on startup (instead of a quick test)? If so turn it on.

Does the bios have any other unusual memory configurations such as parity checking?

Have you verified that your bus speed and cpu clocking are set correctly? Usually memory starts to have problems when you are accessing it too fast.

Have you tried removing part of or swapping the memory chips around?

How much memory are we talking about here?
