Hi All,

I have a customer that has 2 BCM 400's connected in tandem via ip trunks. The main unit has 2 public voice PRI circuits
the expansion BCM currently has 2 point to point circuits. the customer wishes to add another point to point. The Docs say this is possible but how would you configure the clocking?

Thanks in advance for the help.

If i understand correctly you have a main bcm and a Gateway bcm? Usually the PRI's are installed in the gateway then thru a cross-over cable in both Lan 1 or 2 you have your IP trunks. (probably 48 in your case, that's what comes with the Bcm Gateawy package). I don't understand why you would like to add a point to point T1. Where does it terminated?

Set the timing to MASTER... I know it sounds funny, but thats what Nortel wants. Also, what are these point to point T1's connecting to?

I understand the 2 BCM part (adding more sets usually)..

The main cabinet has 2-PRI's and all the phones for the main site. The customer has 3 other sites with norstars that are tied to the expansion BCM with Point to point T1's for two of the sites and E&M trunks for the 3rd site. At the third site they are getting rid of the E&M trunks and adding a T1. IP trunks were out of the question for this customer because of a bad experience with norstar gateway's with a previous vendor, Also they have a very high call volume between sites.

Thanks for the input guys I will try setting it to master and see what happens.

The side with your Public T1s should be Master and your remote side Slave. You'll only get these choices if you have an MCDN keycode on both sides.

I have MCDN keycode installed, I still only get options for Primary, secondary and internal. Am I missing something?

Somethin' is up. Whenever I installed an MCDN keycode, you all the sudden get the Master/Slave choices. Hopefully, someone else has the answer.

Adversity is Opportunity

I just installed a a BCM 4.0 with MCDN and my choices are Primary, secondary and internal also. But I only have 2 T-1's in the main location

It's only dialtone-VZ

As i recall when you select SL-1 protocol you see the Master and Slave option.

If they are 4.0. Under Configuration>Resources>Telephony Resources>Select the PRI Bus in question>Trunnk Module Parameters>select SL-1 from the Protocol drop down menu.

I am installing this third DTM tonight. I see where you would set the parameters for Master or Slave, but the problem is the Point to Point circuits are standard T1 not PRI.

Any input would be helpful.

In your case it should be set to "T1" instead of "PRI" but SL1 still. Then you should be able to select Master or Slave.
