Hi gank! I'm infant SUN Tech User
Our company planned to buy new SUN Fire V120 for server. But I have no idea how to installing 3rd party s/w on it.
I understand that SUN Fire V120 use console for it's management. Can I use Windows based laptop or should I use SUN based machine for SUN Fire V120 console. If so can I use our old SunSparc 20 (SUNSoft Solaris 2.4 OSI) for console?
thank you for replying

Yes, you can use a windows laptop with hyperterminal, which is what I'd suggest.

Installing the software should be pretty easy, just insert the CD in the drive on the v120, make sure vold is running (ps -ef | grep vold), and change directory to /cdrom/cdrom0.

If vold is not running, start it by typing:
/etc/init.d/volmgt start

The software on the disk will probably be in package form. It should look similar to:

[package name]-sol8-sparc-local

So just run:

pkg -d [package name]-sol8-sparc-local

And that should get you started!

Hope this helps ya out!
