Hi Guys,

Bought a couple of 9GB SSA disks to fit into the 2 remaining spaces left in our H70 SSA rack.

Am I right in saying that after putting in the 2 new disks the config manager should pick these up and set them up as the next 2 logical drive names? In this case I have 10 SSA disks already installed labelled Hdisk 0 - 9 and internal 18GB disk labelled as Hdisk10. When I put the 2 new disks in they should come back as Hdisk 11 & 12? The rootvg is currently mirroed on disks 0 & 1 in the SSA, and I don't want any nasty surprises when I come to boot back up and find the drive assignments have changed.

Any Advice most appreciated.

normally the disks will indeed become hdisk11 and hdisk12.But ssa disks can allways be renamed if you don't like the names ( with our servers,we renamed all our disks to match their location and the drawer they're in... ex.disk15 in drawer A3 is called hdskA315 )

greetz,

R.

Thanks RMGBELGIUM.

Does it matter that the 2 new disks will be placed in the first 2 slots in the rack?

No, the assigned disks / disk drive names (hdisk0,1,2,etc) will remain because AIX has previously recognised and configured them, so the new disks will be configured as the next available names, hdisk11, 12, etc.
But be warned if you ever try to restore a mksysb or similar the system will configure all of the disks from scratch before trying to restore the backup, so the hdisk assignments will move at that point when the system will configure the first it "sees" as hdisk0 and so on.

Thanks DukeSSD. Our Current backup (Every Night) does a mksysb first before the LV & FS backup. So In effect we get a new mksysb back-up every night. But I will bear that in mind if we ever have to restore from a previous tape.
