Hallo,

I need to create some MSIs, but am not sure how to do it?

In situation 1, I have a set of MSIs and I need to turn them into a single MSI, i.e. get a 'parent' MSI to run a selection of individual MSIs based on options entered by the user.

In situation 2, I need to take some existing install programs and scripts and encapsulate them in an MSI.

Looking on the web, it looks like 'Windows Installer 3.1' is the tool I need to do this, but I'm not sure how to get started.

I suppose what I'm asking is:

A) Is Windows Installer suitable for my needs (see 1 and 2 above), and
B) Where can I find a basic tutorial on how to use it?

Thanks for any assistance,

do you have access to a Windows 2000 CD?...

WinInstall works really well. FYI, if you're going to use Windows group policy to push out your msi files, always do it by computer and not user in the policy. pushing it out by user can introduce a world of problems if you ever want to remove the software from the clients

Cheers Dublin73, that makes things clearer. One
