I've tried to install netware 5.1 on 2 computers now with no avail. I have tried caldera dos included on the license diskettes and ms dos 6.22. If I type mem then I only see 64 megs of mem. One machine has 384 megs and the other has 256. One machine is PII-450 and the other PIII 1 ghz. The memory is fine because the previous operating systems recognized the memory. I realize that this might not even be a novell problem but a DOS issue. What can I do to get my memory recognized so I can install netware? Thanks in advance.

Check your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.NCF files.

Remove any command lines that pertain to memory, such as DOS=HIGH SMARTDRV, memory managers, etc... Also check for extra drivers loading, like CDROM drivers.

In fact, I beleive that you don't even need a CONFIG.SYS file once the NetWare has been installed.

Good Luck.

My config and autoexec are nearly empty except for the bare essentials like files=30, himem a cd rom driver. This problem keeps me from even installing the server OS.
I set up the DOS environment prior to install just fine. When I type mem from either of the machines, DOS only sees 64 megs. Upon entering Netware install (Netware 5.1) I get an error message that the installer requires at least 96 megs as it only sees 64. I ignored the warning and kept going. However the install would take nearly forever with alot of hard disk activity (swapping?) Finally it froze. So I rebooted and aborted the install program leaving me at the server prompt. The memory command also shows 64 megs just like in DOS. Both machines have the most recent BIOSes available. Is there anyway to run a non-graphical install? Maybe that would free up some memory?

What type of machines are they (eg. Make, model etc...) -----------------------------------------------------
