I need to distribute sensitive data to some users. Out of the 10, 2 of them have Apple computers. The Windows users get the data secured through WinZip 10's encryption + a batchfile extracts it and runs the document (PDF) for them. Don't know if this works on MACs as well.

I need a method to secure this stuff for the MAC users. Otherwise, I endup just burning the PDF files onto a cd and anyone could come across it/steal it and view what's on it.

Let it be known that I have no MAC computers in my office. So it has to be done from a Windows XP machine, but be secured in a way that those MAC users have to at least be able to enter a password to view the PDF files. I can secure it straight from Adobe for now, but I need something like an installer that I can create from Windows and have it work on MAC.

Thanks.

+ a batchfile extracts it

What does this batchfile actually do? Sound like it contains the password to the file, surely not?

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

The batch file for the WIN users has the password set, when entered it creates a directory and extracts the files to it. It finishes by executing an AUTORUN.EXE with a menu option to open the document.

BadBigBen, looks interesting, but this requires me to install software on the MAC users' computers. These people are physicians (which is why this has to be as easy as possible) that are part of a medical board...which meets once every 6 weeks. So I do not have access to them any other time.

I'll continue to experiment. I thought using Adobe to combine them into 1 file and passwording that would do it. But all the links break if I move that 1 file out of the folder. So I will look into trying to modify those.

If you are creating the PDF in the first place then you should be able to encrypt it and password-protect it directly without any requirement for 3rd party tools (it is a built-in feature of the PDF)

That's really putting heavy locks on the door and leaving the key in the lock, and the door wide open.
Why protect with a password if you distribute it with the 'secure' data? it just hinders your users.
