From everything I've read, I've decided to intall sql 2005 as an instance on our existing sql 2000 server. I then restored databases one at a time. I noticed that the sql 2000 services were not running and when I try and start them, they do not start and I cannot access sql 2000.

If they recommend to install an istance then restore one database at a time (so can go back to sql 2000 in case of issues), how do we access the old version?

What error message are you receiving when you try to start the old SQL 2000 services?

Thanks

No errors. When I click to start the service from the toolbar icon, it flashes and nothing happens. When I try from services, it says "MSSSQLSERVER service on local computer started and stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do blah blah.

I opened the sql error logs in the 2000 directory and have this:

2009-07-28 16:18:34.42 server Copyright (C) 1988-2002 Microsoft Corporation.
2009-07-28 16:18:34.42 server All rights reserved.

2009-07-28 16:18:34.42 server Logging SQL Server messages in file 'C:\mssql\MSSQL\log\ERRORLOG'.
2009-07-28 16:18:34.43 server The system is older than SQL Server 7.0 RTM version and is not supported by this server.

The system version was 2000 as it was running fine prior to installing 2005. Have never had any other version of sql installed.
