I installed Norton 9.0 corporate edition. Set the server up as primamry. Installed the norton client onto all workstations via Client Roll-Out Tool. All workstations appear correctly.

Did a scan of all systems to verify functionality and no virus at that time. No viruses were found.

BUT - I had a virus slip through somehow. Virus was named Trojan.Dingsta.A. We found it after running a scan on the individual workstation.

What the H*** happened?

You did a scan and according to the definitions you had at the time, no virii were found. Sometime later, you got a new definition file which included the Trojan.Dingsta.A signature. On next scan the virus was found.

The original scan (9/13/06) was done with the most update files at that time.

The scan that found the file was done manually today (9/21/06).

Norton did not find the virus on it's sechedule 9am scan.

So the scheduled scan at 9am didn't find it but a manual scan did? Are you positive there was not a definition update in the time between the two scans?

Maybe you got the virus in the time between the 9am scan and the manual scan.

We would love to upgrade to 10.1, but we are not on Active Directory yet.

The workstation had the same definition at 9 am as he did at 11:30am when we did the manual scan.

We just got a new definition today at 3pm.

You could have picked up the virus in that 2.5 hrs. Remember, you don't have to "do" anything to get a virus these days, the worms will find you.

Have you got a creation time on the virus file? This *might* tell you when the file was written.
