Hello,

I have a machine that has 2 sata drives. Windows xp is installed on the first drive. I installed Fedora 4 on the 2nd drive (hdb). During setup it looked like it installed grub on hda. When I boot the system, grub does not load and it goes straight into windows. On this post someone changed their bios to boot of the 2nd hd first but I do not have this option in the bios. Anyone know whats wrong? Should I try reinstalling Fedora again, arg. Thanks

Kurt

It's only easy when you know how.

First test could be to simply disconnect the XP drive and see if fedora boots. That will tell you if you have written the boot sector to the fedora disk.
In the longer term you need to create a boot floppy so that you can boot linux with the XP drive connected, then you can use grub to re-install the boot sector.
I have done this a few times but it's such a critical thing to get right that I'm gonna leave it to others that have done this more recently or for you to google for.
I seem to remember that once linux is running you can run "grub" and do something like "setup (hd0)" but check it out with google first to be sure.

Trojan.

Hello, I gave up on Fedora. I'm not sure why it didn't work but I deleted the partitions on the 2nd drive and then Installed redhat 4 instead. I chose the same exact options and redhat works fine.

Thanks,
Kurt

It was Fedora 4 which didn't work. Redhat WS 4 worked great. Not sure why Fedora 4 didn't work. I chose the same options but I'm sticking with RH from now on.
