installed apach2 using gz, not rpm, httpd file is not startable

when I go to the bin direc. is llists apachectl and httpd as a green file. I can "joe" it and read contents but when i type: "apachectl start" , the computer states "command not fould". It is listed in the green color

You have to type ./apachectl start, or put the directory in your PATH variable. //Daniel
