I recently replaced a hard drive on a Pentium 4 Gateway computer. Everything was great up until SP2. Once the update was finished the machine stalled on reboot. It shows a screen much like SAFE mode. None of the options but safe mode would boot. Once in safe mode, I restored and everything was fine. I understand that there is a problem with BIOS in some processors. Can anyone tell me if they have had and or solved this issue. Thanks in advance for your help

System Restore (I assume you mean that?) would have removed your SP2 Update. If Bill's links offer you hope of a second try with SP2 you may like to consider slipstreaming the ServicePack with your current XP CD to produce a new XP SP2 CD.

You could even take it a step further and slipstream all the current Windows Updates into a new XP SP2 CD.
